The HistoryMaker Award

The HistoryMaker Award has been presented since 2009 to those whose lifetime achievements have had a significant and positive effect on Boston and Massachusetts' LGBTQ communities. Past recipients of this award include Congressman Barney Frank, State Representative Byron Rushing, GLAD’s Civil Rights Project director Mary Bonauto, longtime BAGLY executive director Grace Sterling Stowell, and Abe Rybeck from the Theater Offensive.

The Lavender Rhino Award

Named after one of the early symbols of the Gay Liberation movement, the Lavender Rhino Award is presented to an emerging activist or organization whose impact on the local LGBTQ community deserves recognition. Previous Lavender Rhino honorees have included activist and organizer Christine M. Hurley, and Sandi Hammond and the Butterfly Music Transgender Chorus.

Susan Ryan-Vollmar
From her role in helping bring to light the Boston Archdiocese's coverup of the sexual abuse of children by priests, to her role as editor of Bay Windows during the public debates on marriage equality in Massachusetts, and her support of LGBTQ movements and issues, Susan displays a consistent dedication to advocacy for the LGBTQ community and a passion for uncovering and exposing the truth.

Corey is the Co-Founder and former Executive Director of the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC). Founded in 2009, HBGC works to inspire and empower Latin@, Hispanic and Black LGBTQ individuals through activism, education, community outreach, and counseling. Corey is currently the Founding Director of Operations for Brooke High School, and has also served the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth.
