Boston's first official Gay Pride March was held on Saturday, June 26, 1971. When the March took place it sought to highlight four oppressive institutions in Boston: the police, the government, hostile bars, and religious institutions.

This June, The History Project is offering a walking tour that follows the first Pride March's route and tells the stories of the community groups, individuals, and issues related to the route.

Tours meet at 79 Broadway (in Bay Village), outside Jacques' Cabaret and end on Boston Common, take approximately 1.5 hours, and go on as scheduled, rain or shine. All tickets must be bought in advance.

The History Project is an all-volunteer group of dedicated activists, archivists, historians, writers, and community members. Any additional donation you make goes directly to preserving the history of Boston's and Massachusetts' LGBTQ communities and sharing that information with the public.
