Stephen Shapiro is a professor of French at Bennington College and the editor of French 17: An Annotated Bibliography of Seventeenth-Century French Studies. His work focuses on early-modern French literature and culture. He has published work on the memoires of La Rochefoucauld, Mademoiselle de Montpensier, early-modern historiography, culinary history, and the modern myth of France’s Grand Siècle. He is currently working on a cultural history of homosexuality in early modern Paris.
Marvin Kabakoff has been a History Project Board member since 2013. Prior to retirement, he worked as an appraisal archivist for the National Archives for over 35 years. He received his B.A. in history from Brandeis University and his Ph.D. in European history from Washington University in St. Louis. He also taught archival appraisal at the Simmons College Library School. Marvin lives in Jamaica Plain and is the service leader at Am Tikva, Boston’s LGBT synagogue.
