🔥 Pride wasn’t born in a parade—it was born in protest.
In the early hours of June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Inn in New York City became the flashpoint of a new era. When queer and trans patrons fought back against police violence, they ignited a multi-day uprising that would galvanize LGBTQ+ resistance across the country.
But the movement didn’t stop there. It spread. It grew. And in Boston, it took root in radical ways.
From early street protests and student groups to the founding of newspapers, collectives, and community spaces, Boston’s queer activists shaped a vibrant — and often rebellious — political culture. Their efforts laid the groundwork for the city’s first Pride march in 1971 and continued to evolve through the AIDS crisis, marriage equality, and beyond.
🗣 Join us for a virtual talk that dives deep into the early days of the LGBTQ+ rights movement — both in New York and right here in Boston. We’ll trace the lineage of resistance, celebration, and radical imagination that still drives our communities today.
