Thank You for Making the 2020 HistoryMaker Awards a Success!

2020 HistoryMakerAwards Honorees: Nancy Nangeroni, Dr. Ken Mayer, Dr. Thea James | 2020 Lavender Rhino Honorees: Chastity Bowick, Michael Cox

In addition to celebrating our honorees, this year with your support we have raised over $20,000 to sustain The History Project's mission to document, preserve, and share LGBTQ history. Our goal was to raise $25,000, and we made it more than 80% percent of the way there (in a pandemic, during election season!). Thank you for donating, for showing up, and for joining us to hear how our speakers are making our world better through activism, research, advocacy, protest, and community support.

If you didn't get a chance to attend all five events, I invite you to catch up on our YouTube channel:

  • Chastity Bowick (Transgender Emergency Fund) spoke with fellow activist Athena Vaugn about the challenges the trans community faces, and the opportunities to better support each other.
  • Nancy Nangeroni spoke with Gordene MacKenzie about what it was like to be a trans- activist in the 1990s in Boston.
  • Dr. Ken Mayer spoke with Kevin Cranston about his work to identify, treat, and prevent HIV and AIDS in Massachusetts and around the world.
  • Dr. Thea James spoke with Executive Director Joan Ilacqua about her work to address violence and trauma in communities.
  • Michael Cox spoke with Mass Equality's Tanya Neslusan about prison abolition and the work still needed to support people of color, black and brown queer people, trans people, and people who are/have been incarcerated.

The History Project is a community archives and continues to exist because of your support. If you would like to help sustain our mission, you can help us throughout the year in the following ways:

  • If you haven't had an opportunity to donate (or would like to donate more!), please click here. Recurring donations of any size help us to plan for a sustainable future.
  • If you enjoyed our events and conversations, please share them with your network.
  • If you'd like to talk about how THP can provide educational offerings for your workplace, affinity group, or meetup group, please click here.

Thank you for your continued support, and thank you again to our planning committee, honorees, host committee, MC, and sponsors!

In the cause,
Joan Ilacqua, Executive Director
