Join journalists Cristela Guerra (WBUR) and Kate Sosin (The 19th) for a conversation about their recent research and reporting on the life, murder, and legacy of Rita Hester.

Rita Hester, a Black transgender woman, was killed in her Allston apartment in November 1998, and the case remains unsolved. Rita Hester's death spurred the international Transgender Day of Remembrance movement.

Her death sparked Transgender Day of Remembrance. 22 years later, still no answers.

About the Speakers

  • Cristela Guerra is an arts and culture reporter for The ARTery (WBUR). She's driven to understand peoples' passions, committed to local communities and hopes to use the arts as a lens to delve deeper into stories of equity, culture, social justice and race. She previously worked at the Boston Globe and the Florida News-Press.
  • Kate Sosin is The 19th's LGBTQ+ reporter, focusing on transgender rights, incarceration, politics and public policy. Kate has conducted deep-dive investigations into transgender prison abuse and homicides for NBC News. They previously worked at Logo TV, INTO and Windy City Times.
