Urvashi Vaid Memorial Gathering, 28 September 2022

Urvashi Vaid Memorial, September 28, 2022

Organized by Boston Friends of Urvashi and filmed by Patricia Garcia-Rios, the Urvashi Vaid Memorial Gathering recording is now available on The History Project's Youtube channel.

Urvashi Vaid, queer community activist, strategist, and visionary leader, died on May 14, 2022, of metastatic breast cancer. Urvashi lived and worked in Boston for many years, organizing Allston-Brighton Greenlight, a feminist anti-violence project; attending law school at Northeastern University; organizing LGBTQ Pride; working at Gay Community News; and dancing all night at queer and punk rock clubs. She held a special place in her heart for our city, and we loved her back.

Speakers included Amy Hoffman, Sue Hyde, Sue Metro, Richard Burns, Suzanna Danuta Walters, Hershey Hirschkop, JR Dreyer, and Janson Wu. Slideshow by Susan Fleischmann.

This memorial event was co-sponsored by the Women's, Gender, and Sexualities Studies Program of Northeastern University and The History Project.
