🕸️ Unlock the Haunted Histories of Queer Gothic Literature! 🕸️
Just in time for LGBTQ+ History Month, join National Park Ranger Meaghan Michel for a virtual journey into the eerie, shadowy worlds of queerness in Gothic literature. 🌈📚
From the flickering candlelight of 18th-century haunted castles to the foggy moors of 19th-century England, Gothic literature has always been a space where queerness lurked in both fear and fascination. With monsters, outsiders, and forbidden desires, the Gothic genre mirrored the anxieties and hopes of its time. But did you know that queer authors and hidden LGBTQ+ themes helped shape the genre itself? 👻✨
In this spine-tingling Part 2 of last year’s popular event, Meaghan will lead us from the Gothic’s heyday in the 1860s to the 1960s—examining how public fears of queerness crept into the pages of Gothic stories, while also offering queer writers a way to explore identity, longing, and defiance. 🏰💀 Whether you attended last year’s talk or not, prepare for a haunting evening that dives into the secret lives and tantalizing tales of Gothic’s greatest authors.
